How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required by the course. Assessment may include written, oral or practical assessment methods. You will know in advance about the type of assessment and how it will operate. There is the opportunity for reassessment and appeal and you will be given this information.

At the completion of this study you can make application to the Victorian Building Authority who will assess your eligibility to become a building practitioner in Victoria.

 

There are no set prerequisites for this course. However, you will be required to sit a numeracy and literacy skills assessment – LLN Test to ensure you will be able to complete the course. All students will be required to complete a pre training review, prior to enrolment.

This course is most suited to applicants who have experience in the building and construction industry.

 

This course is conducted by online delivery via a virtual classroom (i.e. you login into your computer and attend the class from home in real time). Commencement dates are available at regular intervals throughout the year. Classes will be available most evenings and generally run between 5 pm and 10 pm. Students will have the option to attend either one or two nights of the week depending on the training provider selected.

The course timeframe will generally not exceed 18 months.

What employment opportunities will I have?

This course may lead to employment in the building industry. The Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) provides an excellent opportunity for individuals providing the skills and a sound knowledge of; building law, structural behaviour, regulations, codes and standards, small business, estimating, efficient sustainable structures. 

This course may lead to employment as a registered builder, construction manager, building supervisor, etc.

You will gain skills in building law, site survey set out, sketching, structural principles, estimating, building codes contacts, Australian standards, supervision, planning, environmental, plan reading, OHS, etc.

What qualifications will I receive?

On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the CPC50220 ­Diploma in Building and Construction. As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?

This course will lead to higher level studies. Credit transfers may be available into our Diploma of Building, or at an Advanced Diploma in the building surveying sector.
